Raunchy US chain Hooters renews UK plans

US chain Hooters, known for its scantily clad waitresses, is considering expanding across the UK, with Manchester one city said to be ripe for the taking.

Hooters currently has just one UK branch in Nottingham, however restaurants could soon be popping up across the UK, if plans outlined by Mike Pruitt, CEO of parent company Chanticleer Holdings, come into fruition.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Pruitt said: “We’re now looking to expand… by providing capital to open additional locations. Manchester is one of those cities we have identified to expand to, but have not announced a timeline.”

Guests to the popular sports bar chain are served by women in skimpy orange shorts and vest tops, who often perform cheerleading routines for punters between serving up American fried foods and beer. Unsurprisingly, 60% of the chain’s customer base is men.

The chain announced a UK expansion in 2008 with more than 30 locations identified. Of those, Cardiff and Bristol were the only two to open and both branches have since closed.
