Nitrogen cocktail bar staff appear in court
Two men from Oscar’s Wine Bar & Bistro in Lancaster, England, where a woman suffered life-threatening injuries after drinking a cocktail containing liquid nitrogen, have appeared in court.
Employee Matthew Harding, of Lancaster, pleaded not guilty. The company, and its director Andrew Dunn of Old Earswick, Yorkshire, did not enter pleas before Lancaster magistrates, the BBC reports.
The company and the two individuals stand accused of breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act.
The alleged victim, Gaby Scanlon, from Heysham, Lancashire was celebrating her 18th birthday at the bar in October 2012.
She drank a cocktail containing liquid nitrogen, and quickly fell seriously ill. She had to undergo emergency surgery to remove her stomach.
The defendants will appear again at Preston Crown Court on 18 May.
