Grand Designs’ fans play drinking game

The presenter of Channel 4’s Grand Designs, Kevin McCloud, wrote an episode “deliberately” designed to play into a drinking game he discovered was being played by its fans.

After discovering that fans of the show had invented a drinking game to play alongside the popular Channel 4 architecture show, McCloud said he set about writing an episode “deliberately designed to get people as drunk as possible”.

The game, which has its own Twitter hashtag #granddesignsbingo, involved drinking a shot every time someone on the show ran out of money or quit their job to manage the project, as reported by The Independent.

Another rules was to have a drink if the owners of a property ignored planning permission or their windows didn’t fit.

Speaking at a media event this week, he McCloud said: “One of the programmes is deliberately designed to get people as drunk as possible. There are all kinds of rules like every time I used the word “bespoke” it’s a double shot, the wife gets pregnant half way through, that’s a treble.”

The long-running Channel 4 show follows families designing and building their dream homes.

Officially, a spokesperson of the show, denied that such an episode had been filmed stating: “It is not true that an episode of Grand Designs was made with a drinking game in mind. Kevin made these comments in jest.”

However fans on the ‘Grand Designs Drinking Game’ on Facebook claim that the episode in questions was episode five of series 11, based on the fact that McCloud “pointed out very emphatically and straight to camera” that he was wearing a hard hat, which earned player’s a drink.

McCloud, who has been presenting the show for more than 15 years, was awarded an MBE last year.
