Police caught raiding confiscated booze

Swedish police have been left red-faced after being caught drinking confiscated vodka and gin and replacing it with water.

The sneaky habit was discovered after a man returned to collect his alcohol seven years after it was confiscated during a raid at his home, only to find that much of it had been drunk, as reported by icenews.com. 

Police believed the man had broken alcohol importing laws after retuning to Sweden from Germany with a large amount of spirits, wine and beer in April 2007.

The charges were later dropped, however when the man returned to collect his liquor some seven years later, he was was surprised to find that 10 bottles of gin and five bottles of vodka had been polished off by officers and refilled with water.

To make matters worse, much of his beer and wine was now out of date.

Swedish police said they had been unsuccessful in finding the culprit but admitted negligence agreeing to pay the man 16,000 kronor (£1,400) in compensation – which covered to cost of the stolen alcohol.
