Italy to dominate Bonhams auction

Bonhams next London sale later this month will be “dominated” by Italian wines, in particular a large collection of Super Tuscans from the Antinori stable.

Taking place on 24 October, the sale will feature vintages of Tignanello from 1997-2007, Guado al Tasso from 1998-2007, 2007 and the newly released 2011 from Solaia and Sassicaia from 1998-2001.

There will, of course, be large amounts of Burgundy and Bordeaux as well with 1985 Echézeaux from Georges and Henri Jayer and seven bottles of 1961 Latour sure to find buyers, alongside 1982 Cheval Blanc and 1990 Cristal.

Bonhams director of wine, Richard Harvey MW, commented: “It is good to see Italy feature so strongly in our October sale.

“Marchesi Antinoni’s reputation is second to none and we are pleased to be able to offer such a wide selection of the company’s ground breaking wines.”

Italy has been riding high in the fine wine market of late, driven largely by Super Tuscans such as Ornellaia and Sassicaia.
