Napa wine train sculpture ‘yarn bombed’
An “iron vineyard” sculpture housed at the Napa Wine Train’s depot in California was “yarn bombed” by a group of stealthy knitters.
The Iron Vineyard after it had been “yarn-bombed”
A group of women snuck into the depot last month armed with their crafty creations with the aim of giving the Napa Wine Train its first run in with “yarn-bombing”, described as guerrilla knitting in which yarn creations are stealthily placed in public places as a form of street art.
This particular wine-themed attack was co-ordinated by Dina Powers whose target was daughter Kim’s “Iron vineyard” sculpture – a permanent feature at the wine train’s depot.
The installation, comprised of roughly 70 railroad spikes and discarded train wheels once used on the Wine Train, was covered with colourfully knitted bunches of grapes overnight by Powers’ knitting group Just Sayin’ Knitters.
