Ivy Ng new publisher for DB Hong Kong
The drinks business has appointed highly-experienced wine trade figure and native Cantonese speaker Ivy Ng as publisher of the magazine’s Hong Kong edition.
Ivy Ng has been appointed publisher of the drinks business Hong Kong
Ivy takes up the position today from her former role as international development and training advisor for China at the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, a post she has held since October 2013.
Prior to that, Ivy spent three years as private client manager at Armit Wines Hong Kong.
Ivy is a holder of WSET Level 4 Diploma and a certified educator for the WSET, International Sommelier Guild, The Wine Academy of Spain, the Sake Sommelier Association as well as an official Bourgogne wine instructor for the Bourgogne Wine Board.
She also works as a part-time educator at Hong Kong wine education institution the AWSEC, while she often conducts tastings for a number of clients in the city, including private clubs and wine trade associations.
Beyond her educational positions, she is co-owner of some vines in Meursault and a director of DAKA Fine Wines, a company she established for the marketing and distribution of fine wine in Hong Kong.
In her former role at the WSET, Ivy’s responsibilities included business development in China covering Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau as well as ensuring that the Approved Programme Providers were in compliance with WSET’s regulations and administrative requirements in these markets.
Before her positions in the wine business, Ivy spent five years in the financial service industry, three years as a business development officer at a pharmaceutical joint venture, 1.5 years involved in the establishment and running of an education agency business, and 10 years as an executive search consultant.
In her spare time, Ivy enjoys attending and organising wine tasting sessions, and visiting different winemaking regions, as well as writing – she started a blog in 2010 called Vinum et Vita focusing on wine tasting, fine dining and travel.
Born in Hong Kong, Ivy is a native Cantonese speaker and a fluent English speaker, while she is also proficient in Mandarin and has conversational French.
Ivy has been tasked by db with the further development of the publication’s Asian title, the drinks business Hong Kong, which is published six times annually, and dedicated to the Asian wine and spirits trade, as well as fine wine collectors across the region.
