Lovestruck woman steals $4 wine to get into jail
A Texas woman stole a bottle of cheap wine and drank it on the street until the police turned up so she could join her boyfriend in jail.
Alicia Walicke got herself arrested so she could be reunited with her boyfriend
In what the New York Daily News described as “crazy, stupid love” a 22 year old Texas woman stole a bottle of wine so she would be arrested and then be able to see her boyfriend in jail.
Alicia Walicke stole a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20 from a Shell petrol station in Cedar Park, Texas, before sitting down in the carpark to drink it, according to a warrant obtained by the Austin American Statesman.
Walicke claimed she took the bottle of $3.99 (£2.40) ‘rotgut’ wine because, according to the warrant; “her boyfriend was arrested earlier that evening and it was her fault, so she wanted to make things right and go to jail.”
Walicke, who had two prior arrests for theft and had also previously been arrested for assault after biting a police officer, was released on Friday on a bail of $5,000 (£3,000) from the Williamson County jail.
Mad Dog 20/20 is a sweet, inexpensive American fortified wine with an alcohol content of between 13% and 18% and part of a group of American alcoholic drinks commonly referred to as ‘rotgut’ and described by the Oxford Dictionary as a “poor-quality and potentially harmful alcoholic drink.”
The Urban Dictionary describes it as being as “majestic as the cascading waters of a drain pipe” and warns “anyone who can afford a dentist should steer clear of this disaster.”
