Aresti highlights longevity of Curicó Cab

Chilean winery Aresti is to launch a Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2001 vintage under its Family Collection label to highlight the age-worthy nature of Cabernet from the Curicó Valley.

The Aresti late-release Cabernet will be sold mainly to restaurants in Chile

The wine has retained a high level of colour and fruit despite its age, and will be sold primarily to restaurants in Chile to increase awareness of the quality and longevity of Cabernet from Curicó – the source of grapes for the late-release.

“Curicó needs to be discovered as a great valley for great Cabernet Sauvignon,” said Aresti managing director Matías Rivera, in a discussion with the drinks business in Chile last month.

The wine comes with a specially-designed label to draw attention to the fact that the Cabernet is 13 years old (pictured, left).

According to Rivera, the wine has come directly from the private cellar of Don Vicente Aresti, who founded the winery in 1951, and kept back an unusually large quantity of the 2001 vintage because it had followed two poor harvests in Curicó.

Aresti has yet to set a price for the special edition late-release Cabernet but Rivera assured db that it would be the company’s most expensive wine to date.

He also said that just 300 cases will be released.
