Charles Heidsieck to launch ‘classic’ 2005
Champagne Charles Heidsieck has announced a plan to release its Brut Millésime 2005 this autumn.
Disgorged this spring after eight years maturing in the house’s Gallo-Roman cellars below Reims, the vintage expression is due to be made available in the UK market from the middle of this October through agent Liberty Wines with an RRP of £74.99 per 75cl bottle.
Highlighting the warms of the vintage, “which has produced rich and generous Champagnes”, the house stressed the importance of “blending wines from villages that yielded freshness and acidity to balance this warmth and richness.”
The result incorporates wine from 11 villages, including Oger, Avize, Cramant and Vertus for the Chardonnay and Mailly and Ambonnay for the Pinot Noir, which makes up 60% of the blend.
Hailing the 2005 vintage as “showing all the hallmarks of a classic Charles vintage,” chef de cave Thierry Roset noted the “great depth, balance and richness which are typical of the Charles wines.”
In addition Roset, who has been with the house for 26 years, observed: “A harmonious acidity and intensity suggest the wine has a long life ahead of it, and the capacity to age many years.”
