Marlborough scholarship fosters UK ties
A scholarship offering one member of the UK trade a chance to visit Marlborough, New Zealand is now open to applicants for 2014/15.
Established in 2009 with the support of the late John Avery MW, the Wine Marlborough NZ-UK Link Foundation scholarship is designed to fund “an exceptional wine industry professional from the UK to travel to New Zealand to experience Marlborough’s wine industry.”
The winner of the scholarship will have a chance to visit New Zealand’s largest wine region, which accounts for 75% of the country’s total production and is worth NZ$1 billion in exports.
The opportunity includes study of Marlborough’s viticultural and winemaking practices, insight into current innovation and the breadth of styles available, and the chance to meet key individuals from the local industry.
Reporting on her own experience after receiving this award in 2012, Kat Wiggins said: “The scholarship gave me an amazing insight into Marlborough, its geography, its people and its wines.
“Covering all aspects, from the artisan producers to the larger companies, from the conventional to the biodynamic, I left with far more understanding, with new friends and with a true love for the region”.
