Over 18s invited to ‘get drunk’ for TV show
A new TV show which invites people to “get drunk” on camera in an attempt to “explore, explain and illustrate” the effects of alcohol is to launch in Ireland.
The appropriately titled, Drunk Television, which has been described by its creators as a “science-based” television series, is currently seeking people to take part in the show marking what could be the next frontier of reality TV.
As reported by sundayworld.com, the station said in a statement: “In a country where getting drunk is considered by some as a national pastime the series will put our commonly held perceptions and beliefs about alcohol under the microscope.
“In a controlled environment volunteers will be invited to drink, and possibly get drunk, in front of the cameras. While under the influence of alcohol, these volunteers will take on a range of specially designed tasks and challenges which will help the programme explore, explain and illustrate the effect of drinking on the body and mind.
“Drunk will focus on facts and evidence, providing answers to a very wide range of questions, some seemingly silly and some deadly serious; how exactly does alcohol effect us – in the short and long term?
“What does it do to our motor skills? Why do we get hangovers? Do beer goggles really exist? Is it a bad idea to mix your drinks? How does alcohol affect your emotions, your judgement or your sex life? This series may not stop you from sending embarrassing drunken texts but it will help you understand why you did it.”
In response to the show’s call for participants, one Facebook user, said: “Science? What a great idea – for 17 year olds – which must be the mental age of the dimwit who thought up this show, the executives who approved it, and the drunks who want the free booze you’ll provide. What a disservice to the people of Ireland!”
The show is set to broadcast on Ireland’s RTÉ Two later this year, presented by Eoghan McDermott.
