Vega Sicilia to dominate Christie’s sale
Auction house Christie’s is to auction “Treasures from a Swiss Connoisseur part II” next month in New York alongside a collection of Vega Sicilia dating back to the 1920s.
Vega Sicilia’s Reserva Especial is a blend of three vintages
The sale will take place on 15 May and the combined collections are expected to make over US$3 million.
The “Treasures” sale encompasses 250 lots from the cellar of a “distinguished” Swiss collector.
“Part I” was sold in 2011 in Hong Kong.
Highlights include 25 double magnums of Château Latour 1982 ($5,800-$8,000 apiece), double magnums of ’82 Margaux ($2,400-$3,200), 96 magnums of ’82 Mouton Rothschild ($10-$15,000 per six) and imperials of 1961 Lafite ($9,000-$13,000 each).
The auction also features a stellar line-up of Spain’s leading fine wine label, Vega Sicilia – including the “legendary” 1938 ($1,000-$2,000 a bottle).
Christie’s described it as, “one of the most comprehensive collections of pre-war Unico ever to come to the auction block.”
