Modern Family’s Burrell opens beer bar
The actor who plays loveable Dad Phil Dunphy in the hit US ABC comedy Modern Family has ventured further into the drinks business by opening a Bavarian style beer bar in Utah.
Ty Burrell’s simply named Beer Bar is described as a “beer garden-like eatery” serving 150 beers alongside bratwursts, local breads and Belgian fries, according to a report in The Washington Post.
The actor already co-owns Bar X, a cocktail bar located next door to the newly opened establishment.
Burrel told the paper: “It’s a super simple menu, which is what we wanted from the beginning. Basic, but well-made and local.
“Instead of putting the energy into a lot of elements, making sure you have fewer elements and you are taking the time to make them right.”
Its menu was devised by Burrell alongside chef Viet Pham, an “up-and-coming Salt Lake City chef” who Burrell met when he and his wife ate at Forage, Pham’s Salt Lake City restaurant.
The Beer Bar’s signature dish, created by Pham, is the the Reuben brat – a sandwich stuffed with pastrami, bratwurst, Swiss cheese and pickled vegetables.
Burrell, who could just as easily have turned to wine having grown up in Oregon, has lived in Salt Lake City since 2008.
He said: “I loved it from the first time I got here. It’s a very unassuming place, it’s a very humble place.”
