Fine Wine 1000 holds steady
Liv-ex’s Fine Wine 1000 index halted a five month decline in March with non-European and Champagne labels buoying up the market.
The index rose 0.1% in March, with Penfolds Grange 2004 seeing the greatest improvement with a 14% climb, Liv-ex noted on its blog.
Its parent index, the Rest of the World 50, rose 0.9% in total, closely followed by the Champagne 50 which went up 0.6%.
Burgundy too was holding steady with a 0.8% rise and Italy went up 0.5%.
The two Bordeaux indices continued to decline, the first growths in particular slumping 1.2% though there was an upward swing for Sauternes which saw Suduiraut, Coutet and Rieussec 2003 all rising more than 15% apiece.
The Rhône index also slipped 0.1% and it is the weakest performer over the last five years, seeing a19.9% rise compared to Burgundy’s 53.9% and an average of 30% over the other indices.
Unlike the Bordeaux dominated Fine Wine 100 which recently reached the “unprecedented” milestone of 12 months of consecutive dips, the Fine Wine 1000 is perhaps faring a little better because of the more positive performance of non-Bordeaux wines.
