As reported by Merco Press, an initial batch of 500 litres of wine is currently being made using grapes grown by small producers from across the country.
In a bid to leverage the Pope’s fame as a way of raising Argentine wine’s international profile, grapes have been taken from Mendoza, San Juan, La Rioja, Catamarca, Salta, Neuquén and Río Negro for use in the sacrificial wine.
The project is being spearheaded by Argentina’s agriculture minister Carlos Casamiquela in collaboration with the Project for the Integration of Small Producers in the Viticulture Chain (PRIOVAR).
