Sign blunder leaves bosses red faced

Disgruntled employees appeared to take a parting shot at their brewery bosses last night by turning their iconic lighted sign  into a profanity.

According to a report in the Lancashire Telegraph, the Thwaites brewery sign atop its building in Blackburn was missing the letters H, I and E last night reducing the brewery to an unfortunate expletive.

The embarrassing message comes following the news that the brewery is to axe up to 60 jobs.

It is not clear if the mishap was directly linked to the redundancy announcements but the blunder is sure to have left bosses red faced.

A spokesman for Thwaites told the Lancashire Telegraph that after they were alerted to the error the lights were turned off and an investigation was launched. 

A spokesperson said: “When made aware of it, all the lights were immediately switched off. It’s not clear what happened, whether there was a fault or other problem but only a few people have access to that part of the building.”

The firm is planning to close the majority of its Blackburn brewery resulting in the loss of around 60 jobs, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

Negotiations with the council and supermarket chain Sainsbury’s to build on the site had failed.

The move means large-scale brewing in Blackburn will cease however Thwaites will keep its visitor centre and craft brewery, Crafty Dan, open.
