UK merchant wins Sichel quiz top prize
An independent wine merchant in the UK expressed delight at the arrival of an impériale of 1982 Château Palmer having won the Maison Sichel 130 anniversary quiz.

“We are delighted to have received our prize, and thanks to Sichel we are thoroughly looking forward to tasting this legendary wine,” said Simon Taylor from Bin Ends @ The Bear in Stroud.
Taylor’s name was drawn at random by the drinks business from a basket of correct answers to the Sichel 1883 quiz, run at the end of 2013 to mark Sichel’s 130th anniversary of fine wine production and shipping.
The impériale contains six-litres of the famous ’82 vintage from the Margaux property and has a market value of over £4,000.
Opened in June 2012, Bin Ends @ The Bear is an independent wine merchant based in the Cotswolds with its own small vineyard which the retailer plans to use to make its own wine in 2015.
As previously revealed by the drinks business, the answers to the five questions in the quiz were:
1 – Maison Sichel set up its offices in which part of Bordeaux in 1883? The Quai de Bacalan.
2 – How did Maison Sichel break new ground in 1967? It built its own winery in the Bordeaux region.
3 – In which part of France is Château Trillol? The Languedoc (AOC Corbières).
4 – In which year did the Sichel family acquire its latest property? 2002.
5 – Château Angludet is in which AOC? Margaux.
6 – What were the first names of the Sichel who married Isabella Rothschild in 1802? Bernhard Juda.
