Wine shipment destroyed in lorry smash
A shipment of wine has been destroyed in British Columbia after the lorry transporting it collided with another on Wednesday.
The collision occurred on the Trans-Canada Highway 1 near the town of Hope. Neither driver was hurt in the crash but the road was closed for 10 hours as workers cleared the debris.
Corporal Robert McDonald of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said in a statement: “Both vehicles sustained extensive damage, with one semi’s trailer ripped apart by the force of the collision.
“And of course there was significant damage to the cargo.”
The RCMP added that the lorry containing the wine, a Kenworth (below), was heading east when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crossed the centre median. The lorry was hit broadside on by the other truck, a Freightliner, carrying pulp which was heading west.
The driver of the Kenworth is to be charged with driving without due care and attention while the driver of the Freightliner will not be charged.
