UK importer unveils new Marlborough SB
UK wine importer Bottle Green has launched a new brand of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc for the on-trade and independent sector.
The Long White has been named after the Moari word for New Zealand
Called The Long White, the new wine has been named after the Maori word for New Zealand, which is Aotearoa, meaning “the land of the long white cloud”.
According to New Zealand Winegrowers, Marlborough accounts for 80% of the country’s Sauvignon Blanc production, which in turn holds a 49% volume share of the UK Sauvignon Blanc market. Nielsen data from the start of 2013 indicates Sauvignon Blanc as the “most popular” grape variety in the UK off-trade.
Such is the continued success of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc in the UK market and elsewhere, as previously reported by db, New Zealand wine growers are starting to plant vines again, following a freeze on vineyard expansion since 2008’s surge in supply.
