According to news issued by BI today, Hamilton’s focus will be on further improving the merchant’s sales and growing the business “both through new innovations and outside opportunities”.

With almost 40 years’ experience in the wine business, Hamilton started working at Harrods wine department in 1975. Here Hamilton met Liam McCann and with him, Jim Farr, and together they founded Farr Vintners in 1978.
Hamilton ran the sales side of the business, looking after many of Farr’s biggest customers. He became Farr’s Chairman in 1989, developing the sales and export market. Farr’s turnover increased from £52,000 to over £70m per annum before his departure in 2008.

Hamilton commented: “I am fortunate to be involved in a business that I am passionate about. For the last five years, I have continued going to as many tastings as I can and looking at new ideas for the trade. The team at BI have proven themselves to be receptive to new innovation and I am looking forward to a strong working relationship.”

BI founder and managing director Gary Boom commented: “We are delighted that Lindsay has decided to come on board with BI. There is no doubt that he is one of the finest, most creative minds in the wine industry with a proven track record of helping to grow businesses through his dynamic working style. I am confident he will be a major factor in our continued growth for many years to come.”
