London to see ‘starriest’ charity wine auction ever
Later today London will see possibly the “starriest line-up of charity wine ever” auctioned at the Bettane + Desseauve Wine Experience.
Among the many wines being auctioned is a bottle of Latour 2000
Due to be held at Chelsea-based the wine fair at 6pm, among the wines donated for the auction are bottles of Château Latour 2000, Château Angélus 2009, Domaine Leroy 2009, Tertre Rôteboeuf 2005, Trimbach 1993, and Quinta do Noval Nacional 2003 as well as magnums of Penfolds Grange 2002 and Cristal 2002 and 2005, double magnums of Chateau d’Yquem 2006 and a five-litre bottle of Torre Muga 2005.
Many of the bottles have been signed by their creators making them highly collectible, and all the proceeds will go to The Grape Foundation, a hugely worthy charity set up to help underprivileged children in the UK and France.
As previously reported by the drinks business, the auction also includes a chance to visit some of the world’s leading wine estates, called The Primum Familiae Vini.
This will allow four people to enjoy a “lavish lunch” and a day-long visit at each of the following producers: Marchesi Antinori, Château Mouton Rothschild, Joseph Drouhin, Egon Müller Scharzhof, Hugel & Fils, Champagne Pol Roger, Famille Perrin, the Symington Family Estates, Tenuta San Guido, Miguel Torres and Vega Sicilia.

Alongside the invitation to the above estates, a boxed collection with a wine from each property is also for sale. Such a collection is released only twice a year, and the combined package is billed as the year’s “greatest prize in wine”.
Other one-off lots include a lunch and tasting at Smith Haut-Lafitte with owner Florence Cathiard and a night at the Veuve Clicquot’s chic new Hotel de Marc with a dinner and tasting with cellar master Dominique Demarville.
The auction starts at 6pm today (Friday 25 October) at the Bettane+Desseauve Wine Experience London, which is held at Chelsea’s Saatchi Gallery.
