Tomatin launches whisky named after mythical beast
Scotch distillers Tomatin has launched a new brand inspired by a terrifying highland legend, writes Amy Hopkins.
Cù Bòcan is named after a mythical hellhound
Cù Bòcan single malt Scotch is named after mythical hellhound which, according to local folklore, has stalked Tomatin distillery’s remote namesake town for centuries.
Legend also has it that a Tomatin worker once reached out to touch the fur of Cù Bòcan, when the beast dissolved and spirited away across the peat moorland.
Inspired by the story, Cù Bòcan peated single malt Scotch whisky is aged in a combination of virgin oak, Bourbon and Sherry casks.
The expression is described as having an aroma of “coconuts and cream, botanicals, tangerine, almonds and aniseed”, and notes of “light smoke, citrus and spices” on the palate.
Bottled at 46% abv, Cù Bòcan is currently being rolled out worldwide with an RRP of £43.99.
