Glasses that detect drugs developed
A range of glassware has been developed which, its creators claim, can detect the addition of “date rape” drugs.
Drinksavvy’s range so far includes plastic cups, straws and stirrers but it is hoped to apply the technology to glass soon.
The cup or straw alerts drinkers to the presence of a drug by displaying coloured stripes and can apparently detect the three most common date rape drugs, Rohypnol, Ketamine and GHB – all of which are colourless and odourless.
Developed by Mike Abramson the first products are expected to reach the US by the end of the month.
Previous attempts to prevent date rape have included simple covers for glasses, real time sensors and even lipsticks that change colour when a drug is administered.
I think this is the best decision anybody can make to protect anybody while they are out trying to have a good time. This idea should decrease the amount of rapes and abuse in today’s society tremendously.
