Acker kicks off autumn with a bang

US auction house Acker Merrall & Condit has lined up a host of current auction favourites for its upcoming Hong Kong sale, including the first full case of Screaming Eagle 1992 to be offered since 2008.

The sale will be dominated by the most sought after Burgundian estates of the moment, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Leroy, Rousseau and Jayer, as well as Pétrus which appears to be on the rise in auction circles.

CEO John Kapon announced: “We couldn’t kick off the fall season in Hong Kong with a bigger bang. Over 90 DRC lots, more than 50 from Leroy, incredible and rare Jayer, Dujac and Rousseau lots, 20 lots each from Petrus and Lafleur, and dozens of own wooden cases from the greatest Bordeaux and Burgundy estates – this will be one of our most exciting HK auctions ever, which is really saying something.

“I expect those who participate will be thrilled after the auction ends because there are also many exciting lots rarely seen in the market, lots that may not be seen for many years to come. Among those are nine bottles of 1971 Échézeaux from a legendary barrel of wines bottled and labelled by Henri Jayer himself especially for Alexis Lichine – a true gem in terms of provenance, rarity and quality. This will be a fun and exciting two days.”

The auction will also see a full case of cult Napa producer Screaming Eagle’s first vintage, 1992, up for sale for HK$400,000-HK$560,000 (US$50,000-US$70,000).

It is described as being in, “beautiful condition”.

The nine bottles of Henri Jayer, 1971 Échézeaux are offered for HK$160,000-HK$240,000. The auction is taking place on 13-14 September at the Island Shangri-La and Grand Hyatt Hotel.
