Team db was treated to a mezcal masterclass at Texan restaurant The Lockhart in Marylebone this week, hosted by ebullient Bordeaux-born bartender Emilie Campesato-Mouragne. In addition to shaking up some of the finest (and spiciest) Bourbon cocktails in town, she regaled us with tales of her time as a bass musician in a rock band and the meaning behind each of her many tattoos.

Lobster tacos were the order of the day during our cocktail session at The Lockhart in Marylebone, named after a city in Texas. In addition to an extensive Bourbon and mezcal selection the venue specialises in south-western US cuisine.

Lorenzo Zonin of Podere San Cristoforo in Maremma, Tuscany, harvests his grapes under the light of the moon (and torch).

Tequila Corralejo launches its authentic Mexican Tequila, Corralejo 100% Agave, at the Sky Lounge in The Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The official ceremony was carried out by His Excellency Mr Jame Nualart, the Ambassador of Mexico.

Scotch whisky brand Label 5 launches its new “5 Senses” cocktail series, which have been designed to “light up the five senses: sight, taste, hearing, smell and the fifth one is all about sharing.” The new cocktail features Label 5 Classic Black, cranberry juice, shaken with fresh lime and ginger, served over ice and then finished off with some fizz.

During a visit to Champagne this week in his orange VW camper van, Jimmy Smith, the effervescent director of the West London Wine School, imagines how 17th century Benedictine monk Dom Pérignon might have felt when he first discovered that he’d created a sparkling wine. On taking his first sip, the monk is thought to have exclaimed: “Come quickly, I am drinking the stars!”

Stand-up comedian Bridget Christie emerged victorious from a seven-strong shortlist to scoop the Best Comedy Show award at the 33rd Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy awards. The prize was presented by Steve Coogan and 2012 award winner Doctor Brown.

The Old Pulteney clipper, complete with crew members and brand representatives, at its naming ceremony in St Katherine’s Docks, London. The yacht, which is Scotland’s only entry into the Clipper Round the World Race, sets off on its year long voyage on Sunday, 1 September.

South Korean design company Conte Bleu has come up with a clever way of keeping track of trophy corks in the form of an adorable quintet of animal figurines (pony, dog, reindeer, cat and penguin), each of which comes with a sticker, so you can write down who you cracked open your Cheval Blanc ’47 with and when. db has its eye on this fetching red reindeer as a stocking filler.
