St Austell invests £1.5m in new pub
Cornish brewery St Austell is to invest £1.5 million in a new restaurant and micro-brewery in neighbouring Devon.
The brewery has bought a 19th century warehouse in Exeter and apparently hopes to begin restoration and building works early next year, with a view to opening in the summer.
The 3,117 square foot warehouse and 586 sq ft unit beside it will be turned into a pub restaurant with a micro-brewery attached, while the upper floor will be turned into five residential flats.
Estate director for the brewery, Adam Luck, said: “We are delighted to have acquired a new site in this vibrant area of Exeter where there is such a lot of development right now with new venues on the Quay and the recently opened Haven Banks activity centre just across the bridge on the other side of the river.
“This is a historic, waterside building that has been empty for two years and is now completely derelict. We are looking forward to transforming it into a brand new pub and restaurant, bringing a new and exciting venue to the area for people visiting Exeter’s popular Quay to enjoy.”
St Austell already runs 168 pubs, hotels and inns across the West Country counties of Cornwall, Devon and Somerset and has already announced that it plans to add five pubs to its estate every year with a particular focus on Somerset.
