Pétrus and Vega Sicilia close Sotheby’s season

Auction house Sotheby’s will close its summer season with a £1 million sale in London, featuring top Bordeaux, Burgundy and Vega Sicilia.

Pétrus and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s dominate in the first session of the auction taking place on 17 July.

Five magnums of Pétrus 1976 (£6,000 – £8,000) is one of the star lots, as is a case of 1979 (£8,000 – £9,000).

From DRC there is a three bottle case of Romanée-Conti 2005 (£20,000 – £26,000), La Tâche 2005 (£5,000 – £6,000) and Richebourg 2005 (£3,000 – £4,000), as well as a case of 2005 Clos de Bèze from Armand Rousseau (£8,500 – £10,500).

The ever collectible Henri Jayer will also be available, with cases of Richebourg 1970 and 1978 and Cros Parantoux 1993 on offer.

Spain’s Vega Sicilia dominates session two, with Unico from 1968 (£6,000 – £8,500) and 1970 (£3,600 – £4,800) among the lots. The Ribera del Duero-based winery was the star of the show at one of Sotheby’s Hong Kong sales earlier this year.

Also of interest are three bottles of JJ Prüm’s Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 1983 (£200 – £260), a Jeroboam of Dom Peerignon 1993 (£400 – £500) and a case of Taylor’s 1970 (£720 – £850).
