Barefoot heads to the mountains
Californian brand, Barefoot Wine, has extended its beach clean activity and turned its attention inland to the UK’s mountains.
Barefoot has teamed up with environmental organisation ‘Respect the Mountains’ to complete two mountain cleans. Nearly 80 volunteers collected more than 50 bags of rubbish during the mountain cleans, which took place in the Lake and Peak Districts.
The mountain cleans took place in the Hope Valley area of the Peak District and near Derwent Water in Keswick in the Lake District.
Barefoot Wine marketing manager, Yona Ellis, said: “The Barefoot ethos is all about strong ties with the environment and engaging with local communities.
“It’s fantastic to see the Barefoot ethos expanding in the UK and we’re delighted to be partnering with ‘Respect the Mountains’.”
The mountain clean activity has run in conjunction with the Barefoot Beach Cleans, which are now in their sixth year.
Since 2008 the annual Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue project has enlisted the help of 4,000 volunteers who have cleaned 43 beaches and collected 10 tonnes of rubbish between them.
The 2013 Beach Clean programme began in May and is set to run until September 2013 – with a total of 14 Beach Cleans taking place.
