Arrest made over cocaine in rum bottles

A man has been arrested and charged by Border Force officers after they seized cocaine, that was discovered in bottles of rum.

Officers at Gatwick Airport seized the liquid cocaine, which had an estimated street value of £100,000.

Around 1kg of the drug was discovered in rum bottles that were found in luggage searched by officers at Gatwick’s South Terminal.

The discovery, on Saturday, led to Donovan Dehaney, 21, who had arrived on a flight from Montego Bay in Jamaica, being arrested and later charged with attempting to import a Class A drug.

Dehaney, of Shenstone Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was remanded in custody to appear at the same court in June.

Ingrid Smith, Border Force Gatwick assistant director, said officers were on “constant alert” to prevent illegal drugs and other contraband goods reaching the UK.
