Comedy fraudster rips off pubs
Police in Derbyshire have once again appealed for help in finding a fraudster who has allegedly ripped off a number of pubs in the region.
The fraudster has pretended to be the brother of television comedian Peter Kay and has conned several pub landlords in Derby.
Peter Stead, 50, told the landlords that he was called Danny Kay and he allegedly offered to put on comedy nights for charity, but then he failed to do so.
Stead said he would put on stand-up shows in return for a donation to the Lewis Mighty Fund. The landlords gave Stead cash to secure the booking but he has since disappeared. Lewis Mighty was a seven-year-old boy who died from an aggressive form of cancer last year.
The alleged frauds were all carried out in Derbyshire in the summer of 2009, and despite appeals including an appearance on BBC’s Crimewatch, police have failed to find Stead.
Derbyshire Police said he could be anywhere in the country.
