Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie wine launches

The first 6,000 bottles of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s new Provençal rosé go on sale online today.

Miraval Rosé 2012

Miraval Rosé 2012 went on sale on the Famille Perrin website this morning at €105 a half case including shipping to addresses in France.

Hollywood power couple Pitt and Jolie partnered with Marc Perrin, owner of Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, on a new wine from their 500-hectare estate, Château Miraval, based in the Côteaux Varois in Provence.

The wine is made from a blend of organically grown Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault, with the back label stating: “‘Bottled by Jolie-Pitt et Perrin”.

“Miraval Rosé 2012 reveals the extraordinary potential of wines from Provence.

“This unique terroir naturally expresses itself in the aromatic wine with a round mouthfeel that is full of freshness,” the Perrin family said in a statement.

Wine critic Thierry Desseauve described the wine as boasting “energy and dynamism, with persistence and freshness” due to its “expressive fruit”.

The stout bottle, similar to those used by Champagne house Ruinart for its Blanc de Blancs, has a discreet black, white and gold circular label, with the signature salmon pink colour of Provençal rosé on show.

A total of 100,000 bottles of Miraval Rosé 2012 were produced.

Pitt and Jolie bought Château Miraval in 2008, reportedly for US$55 million.

They already produce a white called Lady Jane and a rosé called Pink Floyd, so named as Pink Floyd recorded part of their iconic album The Wall at the château, and became fond of the property’s pink drop during their stay.

The estate was home to Studio Miraval in the ‘70s, created by Jazz pianist Jacques Loussier, where everyone from Sting and Sade to The Cranberries came to record music.

Serious about making quality wine, Pitt and Jolie are investing in replanting and grafting new varieties like Mourvèdre on existing rootstocks, along with a geological survey, likely to be carried out by soil expert Claude Bourguignon.

The Miraval cellar, last renovated in the early ‘90s, is also set for a makeover.

A white wine made in collaboration with Perrin will be released this summer, with the Perrin family now responsible for both the winemaking at Château Miraval and distribution of the wines.

It’s thought the pair will marry in Los Angeles but will hold a blessing at their home in France, which they will view as their real wedding.
