Christie’s announces HK Burgundy-only sale

Auction house Christie’s has announced it will be hosting a Burgundy-exclusive sale this March in Hong Kong.

The Henry Tang Collection will be sold over two days from 15-16 March at Alexandra House and is expected to realise in excess of HK$29 million from the 810 lots on sale.

A collector of Burgundy for over 30 years, Tang’s collection is the first to be offered by Christie’s in a standalone sale in Asia.

In another first, Christie’s has “prooftagged” each bottle and case following authentication to indicate it was part of the Tang Collection.

The “Prooftag Bubble Seal” will allow buyers to trace and verify each bottle sold.

Many of the lots were shipped direct from the domaines to Tang and are thus in perfect condition.

Highlights include a case of 1978 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Montrachet (HK$400,000 – $600,000) and a magnum of 1978 Henri Jayer Cros Parantoux ($110,000 – $160,000).

Other highlights include a case of Marc Colin 2002 Montrachet ($26,000 -$50,000) and a case of Hubert Lignier 2000 Clos de la Roche ($12,000 – $20,000)

Simon Tam, head of Christie’s wine in China, said: “The sale features a sizable selection of Burgundy wines from Mr. Tang’s private collection.

“We hope to provide wine collectors with the valuable access into Mr. Tang’s comprehensive collection and share his personal journey in wine.”
