Top 10 new drinks to enjoy this Christmas

We have trawled the web for some of the more outrageous and indulgent drinks that you can enjoy over the festive period.

From Champagne to liqueurs and from beer to wine, there are a whole host of new drinks that you can enjoy this Christmas.

We’ve put together a list highlighting some of the new drinks that are available this Christmas and a couple of old favourites that have received a bit of a seasonal revival.

Grand Marnier

Grand Marnier has launched a limited edition ‘Paris’ bottle this Christmas featuring a new design that pays homage to the French capital and the home of Grand Marnier’s success story.

The design features a midnight blue lacquered bottle overlaid with a gilded gold frieze outline of a stylised, star-filled Parisian skyline.

The Paris bottle is the eleventh specially designed bottle from the iconic liqueur brand, which was first produced in 1880.

The limited edition Paris bottle will be available at Harvey Nichols and Whisky specialist shops, prices start from £25.99.

Stella Artois

Another Christmas special bottle has seen Stella Artois getting into the festive spirit. The new seasonal design captures the festive heritage and the sleek bottle features holly green glass and is corked to add a “truly sophisticated feel to any Christmas party”.

Each 75cl bottle is embossed with the Stella Artois brand name and the signature Christmas star, after which the world-famous lager was named. Individual 75cl limited edition bottles can be purchased exclusively from Sainsbury’s at a price of £3 each. In addition to the limited edition bottle, Stella Artois is also rolling out a new Christmas-themed design for its packaging, which will be sold at all major retailers nationwide.

The signature Christmas star is echoed on the festive red box, and each individual can features the snow white silhouette of the Chalice glass against a deep red backdrop.

Drambuie 15

The warming properties of Drambuie have long made it a winter and Christmas favourite and the Scottish spirits brand has recently launched Drambuie 15 Year Old – a connoisseur expression, created using only 15-year-old Speyside malt whiskies.

Drambuie is a secret blend of the finest aged Scotch whisky, spices and heather honey and Drambuie 15 offers “complex warming malty notes of butterscotch”.

Armand de Brignac Trilogie

Armand de Brignac has announced the release of its limited-edition collection entitled The Armand de Brignac Trilogie.

The polished black wooden case features one 750ml size bottle of each of our cuvées: Brut Gold, Rosé and Blanc de Blancs.

This the first time all three cuvées have been presented as one collection, and only a limited number of cases have been produced.

Tenuta degli Dei grappa

Perfect for when you’ve over indulged with Christmas dinner and your stomach is full, Grappa is a digestif to help the situation.

Just 1,500 half-litre bottles of Grappa Degli Dei are available, each in its own wooden box. This grappa stands out for its “distinctive notes of hazelnut, black pepper, and elderflower, enriched with smooth hints of vanilla and tobacco leaf”.

Following the 2009 harvest, Tommaso Cavalli sent his pomace to the La Valdotaine distillery, entrusting them with the responsibility of transforming the ingredients into a grappa that would bear the Tenuta degli Dei signature.

This creation was achieved through single-batch distillation in a copper alembic still.

Following distillation, the grappa remained in steel for 6 months, and then matured in the same oak barriques that were earlier used for Tenuta degli Dei’s Cavalli, the winery’s iconic standard-bearer.

XB – Sex on the beach

One for those looking for something a bit more fun and trendy to drink at Christmas, this ready-to-drink vodka cocktail launched earlier this year and is now making its way across the UK clubbing scene.

The drink is based on the classic “Sex on the beach” cocktail and is a mix of orange, cranberry, peach and grape, blended with a triple distilled grain vodka.

Ballantine’s Christmas Reserve

Available from October to December 2012, Ballantine’s Christmas Reserve is presented in a white presentation box, decorated with snowflakes and elements of gold foil.

With its seasonal aromas including cinnamon, orange, raisin, candy apple and pear, Ballantine’s Christmas Reserve is ideal served on its own over ice or as the base for seasonal cocktails.

This is the third edition of the Ballantine’s Christmas Reserve and it will be available in more markets than ever before this year.

Healeys Mulled Rattler Cyder

Healey’s Cyder is trying to move people away from Port and Sherry this festive season by launching a new winter warmer drink.

The ‘Mulled Rattler’ is a twist on traditional, cloudy Cornish cyder as it also offers a combination of festive and winter spices. Known for their gentle, warming effects, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg add a sprinkling of Christmas and when gently warmed, Mulled Rattler is sweet and aromatic, “ideal for keeping toasty in the winter and keeping the cold at bay”.

And in case you were wondering, cyder with a ‘y’ is the true Cornish spelling.

Westons sparkling pear wine

Westons has released a new limited edition English Sparkling wine, called 808, as alternative for your Christmas toast. The 808 wine is produced using a double fermentation in oak barrels and then in bottle, similar to the traditional method used for Champagne.

Each bottle is hand-signed and numbered by deputy cider maker Guy Lawrence to emphasise the handcrafted nature of the product.

St Erhard beer

St Erhard is a genuine Franconian Kellerbier (‘cellar beer’) from one of the world’s top beer regions.

The region of Upper Franconia around the city of Bamberg in Bavaria boasts the highest density of breweries in the world. St Erhard was created to represent this beer diversity abroad.

It is brewed and bottled in Bavaria according to the Bavarian Reinheitsgebot (‘purity law’) of 1516.

The slightly dark beer is an “elegant version of a Franconian cellar beer which particularly impresses with its wealth of aromas and finesse.”
