M&S appoints new wine buyer

Marks & Spencer has confirmed the appointment of Sainsbury’s Dror Nativ to its wine buying team.

Having joined Sainsbury’s from Spar in 2010, Nativ, who is currently studying for his Master of Wine qualification, will now move to join M&S in February 2013. He will replace Andy Howard MW, who is due to leave the UK retailer at the end of this year “to travel and concentrate on his new wine consultancy business.”

“I am delighted to welcome a wine buyer of Dror’s calibre to Marks & Spencer”, commented Andrew Bird, M&S head of trading for drinks and grocery, who described the appointment as “an important step in our plan to transform M&S into an international, multi-channel wine retailer.

Bird added: “I would also like to thank Andy Howard MW for more than three decades of outstanding service with M&S and I am pleased to see the wine industry will continue to benefit from his experience.”

I am enjoying my last bottle of M&S Houdamond Pinotage 2009 and I am wondering if I will ever taste it again. Will M&S ever stock this excellent wine again? I hope so. Is there a reason is is no longer stocked?

Is M&S still interested in buying boutique wine from Washington state?
