AMEX-sponsored Wine and Dine Festival opens
Hong Kong’s biggest outdoor culinary and wine event, which runs from 1-4 November, opens to the public.
The American Express Hong Kong Wine and Dine Festival, one of the city’s top dining events, is getting ready to welcome thousands of visitors to the West Kowloon Cultural District, with its spectacular backdrop of Hong Kong’s skyline.
The festival, which in its inaugural year in 2009 made the ForbesTraveler.com’s top 10 list of international food and wine festivals, will feature will feature a Sweet Pavilion and a New Products Zone for the first time, alongside over 200 wine booths and more than 100 gourmet food booths.
Also introduced for the first time will be a limited number of classic wine passes for two to encourage gastronomes to bring their friends to the event.
“This is the last year for the Hong Kong Wine and Dine Festival to be held at the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade,” HKTB chairman James Tien said. “In bidding farewell to the site, the HKTB is hosting a mega party with brand new elements, including a Sweet Pavilion and a New Products Zone.
“We are also going to have a Wine Culture Celebration that features Italian and Spanish cuisines and wines, not only to spice up the festival, but also to highlight the diverse and international culinary offerings of Hong Kong.”
The festival will kick-start American Express Hong Kong Wine and Dine Month in November, during which the local catering and restaurant industries, as well as major dining districts, will provide a string of food- and wine-themed programmes.
Organisers Hong Kong Tourist Board hope will get the entire city to celebrate Hong Kong’s culinary excellence, stimulate visitor spending and set up a promotional platform for the SAR’s trade partners.
Since its introduction, this event has continued to delight local and visiting individuals with some of the most fascinating and attractive eateries and drinks, showcasing Hong Kong as the Culinary Capital of Asia,” said YC Koh, president, Asia, International Consumer and Small Business Services of American Express International.
“We are very honoured to partner with the HKTB for the fourth consecutive year to stage Hong Kong Wine and Dine Month. We look forward to bringing more exciting and mouth-watering cuisines to the city, making it another memorable year for all the food and wine lovers.”
