Steakhouse trend gets Danish twist
Denmark is adding its own touch to London’s upmarket steakhouse trend as the country’s MASH – Modern American Steak House – chain has confirmed the UK capital as the location for its first overseas venture.
Co-founded three years ago by a group of Danish sommeliers and restaurateurs, MASH now has seven branches in Denmark, five of which are in Copenhagen.
MASH London is due to open in Soho this November, housed in the striking Art Deco building at 81 Brewer Street. It joins a number of US-inspired steak restaurants to have sprung up in recent years across the capital, including Goodman, Hawksmoor, JW Steakhouse and Cut at 45 Park Lane.
The MASH team’s original aim was to introduce the style and quality of American steakhouses as an alternative to the trends for molecular gastronomy and Nordic cuisine which were sweeping the Danish restaurant scene at the time.
In addition to promising one of the best American wine lists in the UK, MASH London will also feature a standalone bar with its own menu, cocktail list and “exclusive” range of beers.
