Cox leaves NZ Winegrowers
European director of the New Zealand Winegrowers, David Cox, has left the organisation “to pursue other interests and projects”.
“After three years in the role, I thought that the time was right to move on. It is the beginning of our new financial year, so it was an appropriate time to depart,” Cox told the drinks business.
“There are other opportunities I would like to consider and I will take some time to assess these. I don’t have a concrete role to go and my thoughts on other avenues have not crystallised just yet. However, I’m looking forward to what the future brings,” he added.
New Zealand Winegrowers, which has its European office in London’s New Zealand House, said that it is looking for “an experienced, credible wine marketer who wants to be part of the next stage of New Zealand wine’s growth in Europe.”
Chris Yorke, global marketing director for the New Zealand Winegrowers said, “We will be recruiting for a successor to drive our exciting projects in Europe.
“In the UK, New Zealand Wine is in good shape – we are showing the biggest growth in value share for a New World country (Nielsen April 2012) and at £6.33 have the highest average retail price per bottle (Nielsen April 2012).”
He also commented, “In Mainland Europe New Zealand Winegrowers is working in partnership with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise to launch and build the New Zealand Wine brand in Germany, Netherlands and Sweden.”
Wow, this is very interesting news. Having been involved with New Zealand for many years and a passionate enthusiast not only for their distinctive wines, but also for the country as a whole, I built up a good friendship and professional working relationship with David Cox. He very kindly wrote the foreword to my book “An Epicurean Odyssey: A Road Trip Around New Zealand”. I wish him all the best of luck for his future ventures and activities.
