Menezes moves to Diageo executive board
Diageo has appointed Ivan Menezes to its board as an executive director, driving speculation that he is the top internal candidate to succeed current CEO, Paul Walsh.
Menezes has been chief operating officer of Diageo since March and in that role he led Diageo’s operating businesses globally with responsibility for operations in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, North America and Latin America and Caribbean.
After joining Diageo through its Guinness subsidiary in 1997, Menezes became president of Diageo North America in 2004.
Previously in March Walsh hinted at a date for his departure and confirmed that Menezes is the likeliest candidate to succeed him.
Walsh was speaking to the Wall Street Journal when he said that he intended to stay until at least 2014, seeing out three more financial years and the targets he set for himself and the group in August last year.
