Lanson to extend Extra Age range
Lanson is adding a Blanc de Blancs later this year to its Extra Age expression.
Managing director at Lanson UK Paul Beavis said there was a demand for a 100% Chardonnay under its premium non-vintage range, which has spent a minimum of seven years ageing on its lees.
The new Champagne will be targeted at the UK on-trade and independent retail sector.
He added that there was a demand for Champagne above the brut non-vintage style, but below the top tier of prestige cuvée.
Speaking of the UK market he admitted that the last quarter of 2011 had not been as buoyant as predicted.
However, looking ahead, he added, “This is going to be amazing year: there’s the Olympics, the Jubilee and Wimbledon.
“We are classifying it as ‘a summer of celebration’,” he concluded.
