Auchentoshan launches range exclusive to TR

Auchentoshan has created a range of single malt whiskies that are exclusive to travel retail.

There are four core whiskies in the range that will be supplemented by two limited editions each year.

Available globally and aimed at traveller and connoisseur alike, the whiskies are matured in different European and North American oak that has previously been used for either bourbon, oloroso or Pedro Ximénez.

Rachel Barrie, master blender at Morrison Bowmore Distillers, stated: “The new Auchentoshan Travel Retail range brings the story of cask maturation alive, allowing the drinker to experience the distinctive influence of different casks from North America and Spain as well as the influence of age.

We’ve created a range for exploration and discovery, from aperitif to digestif in style, soft and sweet to dark and delicious in taste.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to share these intriguing and highly distinctive expressions of Auchentoshan with the world.”

The whiskies go by different names depending on the wood used in their maturtion.

“Springwood” (pictured) is 100% ex-bourbon cask, “Heartwood” a mix of bourbon and oloroso as is the 14-year-old “Cooper’s Reserve”, however the latter, as well as being older, is non-chill filtered and higher strength.

“Solera” has used the Pedro Ximénez casks with the aim of imparting the “dark, intense and alluring” characteristics of what is often considered to be the “king of Sherries”.

The one special edition so far is “Silveroak”, high strength (51.5% abv) and non-chill filtered, it is a 1990 distillation of only 500 cases – also matured in bourbon and oloroso casks.

The whiskies will be available to World Duty Free stores exclusively from 7 March and will then go on general release throughout travel retail in April.
