New BIVC president revealed
Emmanuel Charrier, a winemaker from the Coteaux du Giennois appellation, has been elected the new president of the BIVC, the regional trade body for the AOP wines of the Centre Loire vineyard.
Charrier (left) will be assisted by vice-presidents Benoît Brochard, representing the négociants, and Denis Jamain of Reuilly representing the wine-producers.
Catherine Corbeau-Mellot, Elisa Gueneau, Jean-Claude Châtelain, Pierre Fouassier and Quentin David complete the new team. Benoît Roumet remains as director of the Interprofession.
A BIVC statement said: “The BIVC’s main mission is to support the promotion of the wines from the Centre-Loire region, both the globally-recognised appellations such as Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé and the less well-known like Menetou-Salon, Quincy, Reuilly, Coteaux du Giennois, Châteaumeillant, and Pouilly-sur-Loire.
“Another key priority for the interprofession is to work on the technical side of the winemaking process, and to this effect they run a special wine laboratory – SICAVAC – which will continue to support the winemakers in the region through its R&D efforts.”
A specific research project will be developed for red wines from the region in the near future, the BIVC said.
The BIVC works to support the wines locally and on its key export markets – UK, US, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Canada, Sweden, Ireland and Switzerland.
