Galante honours Argentine legend

A new London cocktail bar takes its inspiration from one of Argentina’s most famous bartenders, Santiago “Pichin” Policastro.

Opening on 16 January at 87 Sloane Avenue in South Kensington, Galante is promising a collection of cocktails from the 1930s and ‘40s, served alongside a selection of innovative, more modern drinks with an Argentine influence.

The launch will coincide with the third anniversary of the death of the bartender known as “El Barman Galante”.

In tribute, Galante will serve a collection of original cocktail created by Pichin from 1935 onwards, together with a range of more contemporary cocktails inspired by his legacy.

Among these modern cocktails is El Pato, named after Argentina’s national sport and made from gin, sweet and dry vermouth, Campari and Cointreau.

A menu of light dishes, served on silver stands, will be available alongside the cocktails. Keeping to the Argentine theme, they include sweet and savoury copetines, ceviche and pastries.

Meanwhile the décor takes its lead from Art-Deco, with cocktails served in crystal cut glassware, prepared by bartenders in traditional white jackets at the Lalique-inspired bar.
