Virgin gets mobile
Virgin Wines has responded to a threefold increase in online traffic this year with the launch of a mobile version of its website.
The online retailer has spent the last few months working with software company Mobify to create the site, which offers a stripped down version of the desktop format.
Using the most up-to-date CSS, javascript and HTML 5 codes, the mobile website provides a streamlined way for customers to put together mixed cases, navigate the site and buy wine. The retailer is now planning to add an auction feature and enable customers to rate its wines.
Virgin Wines managing director, Jay Wright, explained: “During the last year we have seen a significant increase in the amount of visits to our website from mobile devices compared to the previous year.
“We have launched the mobile version of our website in response to this, bringing our brand closer to our customers and those people who like to interact with us via a mobile device.”
This development by Virgin builds on research released earlier this year by international online reservations provider Livebookings, which found that 23% of web browsing is now done by mobile phone, while 36% of the UK population now owns a smartphone.
