Intercontinental advances European growth strategy
The Intercontinental Hotels Group has bolstered its UK portfolio with 19 new hotels over the past year, part of the 54 hotels signed into its European portfolio during the past 12 months.
The group has added UK sites to its Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Hotel Indigo brands. Its European expansion has taken in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Russia, Turkey, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
Among the UK openings is a 188 bedroom Holiday Inn in Stratford, London, which is due to open in time for the 2012 Olympic Games and promises its guests views of the Olympic Park.
Kirk Kinsell, president for Europe, Middle East and Africa, IHG said, "Signing a further 54 properties is testament to the strength of our brands and reflects our commitment to growth in Europe.“
In total, IHG controls a portfolio of over 4,400 hotels in 100 countries worldwide. It currently has 1,236 hotels in its development pipeline, with plans to recruit around 160,000 people over the next few years.
