Festival of Britain anniversary celebrates Sherry
Sherry’s public image will receive a boost this month as part of the London Southbank Centre’s Festival of Britain 60th anniversary celebrations.
The event on 9 May will see Jancis Robinson MW take to the stage with three Michelin-starred chef Heston Blumenthal to promote the drink alongside afternoon tea as great British rituals of the 1950s.
Two dozen Sherries from eight houses will feature in the session, which the audience will be able to taste alongside recipes specially created for the evening by Blumenthal.
The event forms part of the "national treasures" series and takes its inspiration from the afternoon tea and Sherry parties which became popular during the 1950s. Sixty years later, the drink made famous by the British is now enjoying a renaissance in top restaurants around the world.
Prices for the event start at £45, to include the talk in the Queen Elizabeth Hall as well as the Sherry and tea tasting beforehand.
