New Caballeros join Order
Two members of the Spanish wine trade were inducted into the Gran Orden de Caballeros at the Order’s annual dinner in London this week.
Mariano Garcia Fernandez, general director and winemaker of the Mauro Group, and Carlos Read, buying director at Moreno Wines, were honoured this year and Maria José Sevilla, director of Food and Wines from Spain, said that the Order was “delighted” to welcome the new members.
She continued: "We are especially pleased to have the largest turnout yet for our annual Caballeros dinner. Given the economic situation we all find ourselves in this is a true endorsement of Spain’s importance to the British wine trade and long may it continue."
Meanwhile, Nick Room has taken over from Allan Cheesman as chairman of the Order. Room has been Waitrose’s Spanish wine buyer since 1998 and was invested in the Order in 2006.
