UK regains Chilean top spot
The UK is once again the leading export market for Chilean wine by value, according to the latest figures from Vinos de Chile.
The UK has always been one of Chile’s best customers by volume, but the US became Chile’s number one export market by value in 2009.
However, figures for the year ending December 2010 show that the value of Chilean wine in the UK rose by 7.2% to US$231,132,731, beating the US market value of $208,690,233.
Michael Cox, Wines of Chile’s European director, said: “Despite the economic gloom, Chile is once again demonstrating that its growth in this important market is sustained and impressive.
“Its reputation for diversity of style and value for money, even at higher prices, now has real traction. We like being number one and we aim to stay there.”
