Makro unveils Twitter price promotion
“Incredible discounts” are being offered to customers by Makro in the lead up to Christmas, thanks to its new social networking scheme where customers can choose what to pay for products at the UK wholesaler’s stores.
Tweet a Price is an initiative by the wholesaler to especially “target independent off licences as well as bar and restaurant owners,” in the hope that it will become the “business helper for everyday needs,” said one representative.
The size of the discount on the products, which will include drink, food, toys and electrical goods, is determined by the number of re-tweets it receives two days after the product has been originally tweeted by Makro.
The wholesaler, whose UK arm has 30 stores, is operating a varying scale of re-tweets to discounts, but it has reported that Tweeters can drive discounts of up to 50% if a product receives 50 re-tweets.
Mark Copeland, customer director at Makro, commented: “We pride ourselves on understanding what our customers need and want and the run up to Christmas is a key sales time.
On top of our every day low prices, this year we are helping customers make their profit margins even better with the Tweet a Price promotion.”
The scheme will continue through to 23 December. Customers can follow Makro on Twitter @MakroUK

Interesting campaign! I never really think of wholesale outlets running campaigns like this but of course, they still have to make their money somewhere. Things don’t just magically appear on supermarket shelves.
