Jasper Morris Burgundy bible complete

Berry Bros & Rudd Burgundy buying director Jasper Morris MW has amassed 30 year’s worth of studying the region’s complex terroir in a 656-page book called Inside Burgundy.

The tome will be released in October and promises unrivalled insights on the vineyards, the wine and the people, and covers 1,000 specific vineyards from grand crus to obscure plots.

As previously reported by the drinks business, the book differs from other books on the famous region because it is organised according to village and classified vineyard, not by producer.

The guide, which Morris has been writing for the last two years, has a personal approach and also includes detailed information on the social life of Burgundy, with analysis on how the families interact.

As he told the drinks business in an interview in September last year: “I’ve been dubbing it ‘The Sex Life of Burgundy’”.

Explaining his motivation to produce such a lengthy and exhaustive study of Burgundy, he writes in the introduction to the book: “There have been many fine books on Burgundy already written – so why another? But most of these in recent times have concentrated on the producers rather than the vineyards.”

“Over nearly 30 years of visiting Burgundy I have picked up a vast amount of information and I wanted to collect it together and make constructive use of it.”

Elsewhere, Monty Waldin’s Biodynamic Wine Guide 2011 will be published in mid-October.

This promises to be the most comprehensive book on biodynamic wine ever written with over 600 pages covering the theory and practice of biodynamics, and profiling more than 1,500 wine estates worldwide which are either certified biodynamic or organic.
